Professional RPZ Backflow
Device Testing
Protect Your Home’s Water Supply
It’s important to have your RPZ (backflow device) tested regularly. RPZ valves, also known as backflow devices, are critical components that help protect your home’s drinking water and the NYC water supply from contamination.
How does it work?
The plumbing system in your home is designed to work at a specific water pressure, which ensures that water flows in the right direction. However, if the water pressure drops, contaminated water could enter your plumbing system. RPZ valves monitor water pressure and prevent the flow of contaminated water even when pressure decreases.
What causes water pressure to drop?
Water pressure can drop due to various reasons, such as the use of a neighborhood fire hydrant, a local water main break, or an issue with the city’s water supply.
RPZ Testing is Required
Did you know that the city of New York requires annual RPZ testing? All RPZ valves must be tested every 12 months to ensure the safety of your family and the NYC community. While scheduling the testing may seem inconvenient, it’s a necessary step to ensure the quality of your drinking water.
Are there consequences of not testing?
If RPZ valves are not tested regularly, there is a risk of contamination and potential harm to public health. Failure to comply with the annual testing requirement can result in penalties and fines.
Who should perform the testing?
RPZ testing should be performed by a certified and licensed professional, who is trained and experienced in backflow testing and repair.
Record Keeping
It’s important to keep records of the RPZ testing and any necessary repairs. These records should include the date of the test, the name of the tester, the test results, and any repairs or maintenance performed. These records can be helpful in case of any disputes or concerns.
What is the importance of RPZ maintenance?
In addition to regular testing, it’s important to maintain the RPZ valve in good working condition to ensure its proper functioning. This may include cleaning and repairing the valve as necessary.
What is Local Law 152?
Local Law 152 is a piece of legislation enacted in the city that requires all building gas piping systems to be inspected periodically. The only exception is gas piping systems classified in occupancy group R-3. This survey is designed to ensure the safety of the building’s gas systems and to prevent potential gas leaks and related hazards.
The survey must be conducted by a licensed professional, and the results must be submitted to the relevant authorities in a timely manner. The purpose of this survey is to identify any potential issues with the building’s gas systems and to take corrective actions if necessary, so as to ensure the safety and well-being of the building’s occupants.
Building owners and operators are required to take Local Law 152 seriously and must comply with all of its requirements. Failure to comply with this law may result in fines and other penalties. By conducting regular gas surveys, building owners and operators can play their part in promoting public safety and protecting the health and well-being of their communities.
